I have visited Hans Herr House on numerous occasions to capture images during all four seasons. Just last month I had the opportunity to photograph the interior as well. It was a special day with people dressed in period clothing and performing demonstrations for visiting school students.
While touring the house I noticed the way the light was coming through an upstairs window and illuminating the aged wooden stairs. Elma Hess was kind enough to pose for this image to help me illustrate one of my favorite lighting techniques.
(For those with a more discerning eye may notice artificial light to the right of the window. In hindsight I should have turned it off to get the full effect of the natural light coming through the window.)
